Animation of the Cover Design Concept & Mechanical Solution of the Tool Changer.
Vertex was commissioned to provide a new look and smart cover designed for this large scale industrial grinding machine. We had to make sure that the user's accessibility and interface with the machine would not be compromised in any way. We had to provide a wide access point to the working platform inside the machine by having corner sliding doors. 

Large parts are to be inserted into this machine for delicate precision grinding, and accessibility is extremely important.

In addition, we were asked to provide a low cost and effective automatic tool changer mechanism to be installed inside the machine. This was a stepper motor mechanism with a large number of tool holding carousels that have a built in splash guard protector.

Vertex's responsibilities ranged from industrial design, to mechanical engineering and documentation for production, as well as prototyping the tool changer mechanism.
